Born and raised on a farm in South Africa, Michael was fortunate to have an American mother and after graduating high school moved to the United States in order to attend the University of Oklahoma. Michael excelled in rugby while in school, achieving All American honors and following graduation from university, Michael represented the USA in the 1991 Rugby World Cup.
The competitive drive from sports then turned to business and Michael purchased a struggling travel agency and over the course of 18 years turned it into one of the largest privately-held corporate/sports travel agencies in Colorado. Travel Corp enabled Michael and Colleen with their two young sons Devin and Troy to move from Denver to Steamboat Springs in 2002, where Colleen's family resides. While Colleen pursued real estate, Michael commuted to Denver for Travel Corp finally selling then subsequently investing and running FridgeWize in Glenwood Springs CO.
Colleen's success in real estate made for an easy decision for Michael and Colleen to finally "join forces" and continue to grow her business. Real Estate is now the family business and Michael and Colleen have formed De Jong Team Steamboat.
